New Playground Update

Our new playground project is underway. Until fencing and new sidewalks are complete, parents are asked to escort their children to and from the playground.

The Building and Grounds Committee will be coordinating the installation of our new playground near the picnic pavilion over the next several weeks. The project actually involves 3 separate projects, the installation of the playground equipment, the construction of a fence, and the construction of new sidewalk to construct a safe path from our buildings to the playground. More details on each project are as follows:

  1. Playground Equipment
The playground equipment is being provided by Miracle Recreation Equipment, Co. and is being installed by Byler Builders from Clayton, DE. The equipment will include multiple slides, climbing features, multiple points of access and some ADA compliant features. It will not include tunnels or swings. The equipment will be surrounded with a 1-foot-thick bed of shredded wood mulch raised above existing ground and contained by rubber landscape ties. Use of the equipment will require adult supervision. A plan of the installation is attached. It is expected that the equipment will be delivered and installed the first week of September.
  2. Fence
A wood fence will be installed along the College Road frontage and along our exit driveway to prevent children from running into moving traffic. The fence will also identify our pavilion, chair swings and playground as part of our church and not just a community park. A contract for the fence is in the process of being approved. Actual construction the fence will need to wait until the selected contractor can fit it into his schedule. The fence will be approximately 4 feet high. There will be no fencing directly around the playground equipment.
  3. New Sidewalk
A new sidewalk will be constructed from the parking lot entrance at our South Building to the entrance to our North Building under the new porte-cochere. Sections of new sidewalk and striped walkways will be then be constructed from the sidewalk near the outside access doors to the Multi-purpose Room around the perimeter of the parking lot to the driveway to College Road. At that point a pedestrian crosswalk will be installed with a stop sign in both directions on the driveway. When complete a safe walkway between the buildings and the playground will available. The sidewalk will be 5 feet wide with ADA compliant ramps where
    needed.

Based on current contractor schedules, the playground equipment will be installed first and there will be some period of time before the associated safety projects will be in place. If parents would like to let their children use the equipment during this interim time period, we ask that the parents escort their children to the equipment, supervise them while there and escort them back, so they do not run unattended through the parking lot.

Questions on any of these projects can be directed to Mike Arthur (Facility Manager) or any of our committee members; John Tullis, Jay Pearson, Robert Jones, Greg Eroe, Dave Brown, Fred Janssen, Bill Spady, Adam Colaprete and Ray Harbeson (Chair).
