Sermon by Kenny Foster, Senior Pastor, from Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18 & I Thessalonians 5:1-11
The Scripture reading for this Sunday’s message commands us to encourage and build each other up. The believers at Thessalonica had concerns about the nature, time and date of Christ’s coming. Paul sought to encourage them as to what to expect and how to live while they wait for the Day of the Lord. But why should the Christian be encouraged about the Day of the Lord? The Day of the Lord is an often forgotten part of the gospel, yet it is vital to understanding the richness of God’s plan, consecration and appointment for those whom he has loved. Believers today, like the Thessalonians, have concerns about our times too and how we are to relate to the coming of the Lord. Our reading shows us how to live today in preparation for the Day of the Lord. As Christians who seek to be wise and understand the times in which we live, this sermon will teach us why, what, and how to encourage and build each other up with the gospel.
