Sermon by Kenny Foster, Senior Pastor, from Genesis 1:26-28 & 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
We are continuing the series of sermons titled “The Gospel and Human Sexuality; How the gospel is good news for the sexually broken.” God created the body, male and female, in his image. We noted from last’s weeks message, that the body and gender are blessed, powerful, and valued. This Sunday’s sermon will focus on how the body and gender are for God’s glory.
In Paul’s time and our time, the body and gender are not given the worth and value that God gives to them. Too many in first century Rome saw sex as an entitlement for the high born in society. Slaves and plebs bodies didn’t count for anything. What Christianity brought was the sexual revolution that changed the world by giving equal value to men and women regardless of their social standing. What enabled them to build and live in such a radical community? They looked back at the cross, while facing the future resurrection so that they might presently live for God’s glory. Jesus’ death and resurrection gave the justification and affirmation of love their hearts needed to endure and outlast the culture. The gospel’s power is still producing that kind of loyal love in all those who have been bought with the price of Jesus blood.
