Sermon by Kenny Foster, Senior Pastor, from Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13 & 2 Peter 3:8-15
This second week of Advent, our Scripture reading turns our attention to the home of righteousness that will be the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise at his second coming. Not only do we look for the Lord’s return, but we look for what his return brings. Peter describes it as the day of the Lord which will bring both destruction and renewal. In the destruction, the old world with all of its fragmentation, injustice, impurity and unrighteousness, is done away with. In the renewal there is a new heaven and a new earth prepared for a new people. The question is, “Where are you in the repair?” Are you looking for the home of righteousness? That home, Psalm 85 describes, is one where love and faithfulness meet together and righteousness and peace kiss each other.
This sermon’s focus is on our longing for home and how it gives us something to remember and a way to respond, under a wholesome thought that rules.
